Exploring the Value of Repurposing Existing Offshore Infrastructure

Tuesday, 6 May

Technical Session
Repurposing existing oil and gas offshore infrastructure may offer a sustainable alternative to complete removal and premature disposal of assets, thereby reducing wastage and reducing the need for additional construction. While unlocking this potential will involve implementing proper abandonment of wells in accordance with the compliance standards and environmental considerations, emerging technologies and practices may unlock the potential of existing infrastructure for cleaner and/or renewable energy solutions such as offshore wind power, Geothermal energy, CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage) and Hydrogen. As the industry undergoes transition to lower carbon strategies, infrastructure repurposing must play a critical role in steering the future of the offshore oil and gas industry. This invited session explores current best practices and ideas for establishing a link between oil and gas and alternative energy opportunities.
