Dr. Kamel Ben Naceur was invited by the Office of US Secretary of Energy to serve as a member of the National Petroleum Council (NPC) for the 2024-2025 membership term. NPC was created in 1946 by President Truman to promote industry and government cooperation. It is currently served by Mr. Alan S. Armstrong, President and CEO, Williams Corporation Inc. as Chair and Mr. Ryan M. Lance, Chairman and CEO, Conoco Phillips as Vice Chair. NPC represents the views of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and provides essential advice information and recommendations on matters related to oil & gas to our Secretary of Energy. His Excellency, former Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines of Tunisia, Dr. Kamel Ben Naceur, is the President of SPE 2022. He holds degrees from two of France’s top institutions, the École Polytechnique & the École Normale Supérieure. In 1981 he joined the R&D division of Schlumberger. In 2004, he started the first business unit developing CCS prospects. He held executive and senior management roles for Schlumberger in Africa, North and South America, Europe, Russia, and the Middle East before assuming the role of Chief Economist of Schlumberger, in 2009. In 2014, Dr. Ben Naceur became Tunisia’s Minister for Industry, Energy and Mines. Prior to taking the Chief Economist position with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in 2017, Dr. Ben Naceur served as the Director for Sustainability, Technology and Outlooks at the International Energy Agency (IEA), where his teams led the Agency’s Energy Technology Perspectives and the World Energy Outlook, as well as roadmaps for sustainable energy systems, ahead of the Paris Conference of Parties. Kamel advises ministries of energy, industry, and technology of several countries in MENA and serves on boards of several international businesses. He is a co-author of 19 books and more than 160 articles.
